See our little museum of battlefield artifacts from the battle on whoop-up creek (Spring Creek), lost for 130 years and discovered by local artist and artifact hunter Max Martell in 2003. This battlefield has now been documented by the U.S. Government.  This battle took place between the Twenty-Second Infantry, commanded by Lt. Col. Elwell S. Otis. (189 infantry soldiers, 200 mules with packs, and a few skinners) and 300-400 warriors belonging to several bands of Sioux allied with Sitting Bull's Hunkpapas, including Gall, Bull Eagle, No Neck, Pretty Bear, and Red Shirt. This battle took place shortly after the battle at Little Big Horn.

1n 1873 Camp Camby was located on the site of present day Glendive, Mt.  The steamships, The Peninah and The Far West unloaded supplies for the 600 soldiers stationed here.  After about six weeks, General Custer had the camp moved across to the other side of the Yellowstone River.  Walk from our campgound to the Yellowstone River and look across to where the Glendive cantonment was located.  A grain elevator is now located on the site.
